Friday the 13th is definitely not the day someone looks forward to. But we do.

On 13th November 2009 (Friday), Big Umbrella Design Studios was born. With due respect to all the apprehensions about the day, we would like to keep focus on what we do.

Big Umbrella Design Studios is a startup design house founded & funded by alumni of NID, IITB, Abhinav, PICT, IME, IGNOU and IITD. As the name suggests, Big Umbrella is a wider umbrella housing architecture, industrial design, product design, lifestyle and accessory design, film and video production and user experience design.

We believe that the services designed for the end user has to strike a balance between necessity and luxury. Ultimately, it is all about the services and not just the products. We take enormous efforts in creating an overall experience of a service, e.g. watching a movie, riding a train, finding a way or telling a story.

Of course, geography plays an important role in designing the services. Here, we apply the "India filter" when we create Indianized services. For other geographies, we team with the local agencies in understanding the "way of life"; create cultural compendium and design services based on that.

We encourage the spirit of freedom, individualism and entrepreneurship. It’s good to associate with like-minded people who have the right attitude to make a difference. We invite right and left brained, mind-mappers, writers, designers and technologists to join us.
